Global Humanitarian Support dedicates itself to fostering equitable opportunities through compassionate aid, zero-interest financial programs, and sustainable development, striving to uplift vulnerable communities worldwide.

Global Humanitarian Support (GHS) is Helping Flood-Affected Communities Across Asia

Floods in South and Southeast Asia cause loss of life, displacement, and damage to homes, crops, and livelihoods every year. Global Humanitarian Support (GHS) is on the ground and working with local partners to deliver fast, practical, and sustained relief across India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Philippines and neighboring areas. Below is a comprehensive account of what we are doing now โ€” the services we provide, how we operate, examples of country-level activities, safeguards and accountability measures, and ways the public can help.

Rapid response: what we do first

When flooding strikes, speed and coordination save lives. GHS activates a three-phase emergency response model:

  1. Life-saving relief (first 72 hours โ€“ 2 weeks)
    • Rapid needs assessment with local authorities and community leaders.
    • Distribution of emergency kits: clean water, water purification tablets, ready-to-eat meals, blankets, hygiene kits, and portable shelters/tarpaulins.
    • Medical first aid and referrals to local health facilities.
    • Search and rescue coordination support where requested.
  2. Stabilization & protection (2 weeks โ€“ 3 months)
    • Temporary shelter solutions and family tents.
    • WASH (Water, Sanitation, Hygiene): latrine repairs, emergency water trucking, and hygiene promotion to reduce disease risk.
    • Protection services: child-friendly spaces, support for older people and people with disabilities, and gender-based violence (GBV) referrals.
    • Cash or voucher assistance enabling families to buy food, seeds, or basic household items locally.
  3. Early recovery & resilience (3 months โ€“ 2 years+)
    • Rebuilding homes with improved flood-resilient designs.
    • Livelihood recovery: interest-free microgrants and business support (aligned with GHSโ€™s zero-interest policy) to restore small enterprises and agriculture.
    • Community infrastructure repair (drains, water points, schools) and disaster risk reduction (DRR) training.
    • Psychosocial support and community-led planning for future events.

Country snapshots: targeted approaches

India

  • Where we focus: Flood-prone states and river basins after monsoon surges.
  • What we deliver: Mobile medical clinics in hard-hit districts, WASH kits for displaced families, and emergency food parcels distributed through local NGOs.
  • Recovery work: GHS is piloting a zero-interest reconstruction fund for low-income households to repair flood-damaged homes using elevated-floor designs and flood-resilient materials. We pair grants with short training sessions on resilient building techniques.

Pakistan

  • Where we focus: Riverine communities and low-lying provinces affected by flash floods.
  • What we deliver: Rapid distribution of clean water container sets and hygiene kits, child nutrition packs, and temporary shelter materials.
  • Recovery work: We support small fishermen and farmers with interest-free inputs (seeds, nets, tools) and business mentorship so livelihoods can restart quickly.

Bangladesh

  • Where we focus: Deltaic and coastal communities susceptible to storm surge and river floods.
  • What we deliver: Family hygiene kits, safer cooking stoves for displaced families, and school-in-a-box kits to reduce education disruption.
  • Recovery work: Cash-for-work programs rebuild embankments and community drainage while providing income, combined with grants for women-led small enterprises.

Nepal

  • Where we focus: Lowland Terai and hill valleys affected by monsoon floods and landslides.
  • What we deliver: Shelter assistance, drinking water provision, and emergency health referrals in remote areas.
  • Recovery work: GHS funds community water systems and helps local cooperatives access zero-interest microgrants to diversify income beyond flood-sensitive farming.

Philippines

  • Where we focus: River basins and urban flood zones affected by typhoons and heavy rains.
  • What we deliver: Temporary evacuation center support (mattresses, dignity kits), emergency medical teams, and debris removal assistance in coordination with municipal government teams.
  • Recovery work: We provide grants and technical support for small vendors to restock shops and for fisher communities to replace damaged gear; we also fund local DRR workshops focused on early warning and evacuation planning.

How we operate: coordination, local partnerships, and logistics

  • Local partnerships: GHS works through trusted local NGOs, community-based organizations, faith groups, and municipal authorities to ensure culturally appropriate and rapid delivery. Local partners help us identify the most vulnerable households and ensure fair distribution.
  • Supply chains & procurement: To stimulate local markets and reduce delays, we prioritize local procurement of food, shelter materials, and household items unless specialized supplies are needed.
  • Technical teams: GHS field teams include logisticians, WASH engineers, protection officers, cash-assistance specialists, and community mobilizers who coordinate the response and monitor quality.
  • Coordination: We participate in national and regional cluster systems (health, WASH, shelter, logistics, protection) and coordinate with UN agencies where appropriate to avoid duplication and reach gaps.

Accountability, transparency & protection

  • Beneficiary feedback: Community feedback channels (hotlines, suggestion boxes, community meetings) are set up at distribution sites so people can raise concerns or request changes.
  • Protection by design: All activities include protection checksโ€”women-only distributions, separate latrines in camps, child-friendly spacesโ€”so assistance is delivered safely.
  • Transparent reporting: GHS provides publicly available situation updates, financial summaries for emergency appeals, and impact snapshots to donors and communities.
  • Monitoring & evaluation: We collect basic outcome indicators (household access to safe water, shelter status, cash use) and adjust programming based on what the data shows.

Long-term resilience & the GHS advantage

GHS combines immediate relief with interest-free financial support, which is key in recovery phases:

  • Zero-interest study & recovery loans: Families rebuilding after floods can access small, interest-free loans to pay for school fees or to invest in flood-resilient business restarts.
  • Small business grants & mentorship: We link grants with in-field mentorship to increase survival rates of microenterprises post-disaster.
  • Community DRR projects: GHS invests in early warning systems, embankment repairs, and community preparedness training so fewer people will be displaced in future floods.

Real (anonymized) stories of impact

  • A community in the Terai region: After severe flooding, a womenโ€™s cooperative received emergency grants and training to replant vegetable gardens on raised beds โ€” enabling steady income while food supplies were rebuilt.
  • A coastal fisher group in the Philippines: GHS replaced damaged nets and provided business mentoring so fishers could return to market, stabilizing household income and local food supply.
  • A student in rural India: Received an interest-free study loan to continue college after her familyโ€™s home was damagedโ€”reducing the risk she would drop out due to financial stress.

What success looks like (how we measure progress)

  • People access safe drinking water and functional sanitation in the weeks after an event.
  • Displaced families are housed in dignified, temporary shelters while plans for reconstruction are in place.
  • Small businesses restart and students return to school.
  • Communities adopt at least one resilient practice (raised seedbeds, evacuation routes, household preparedness kits).
  • Beneficiary feedback indicates assistance was timely, appropriate, and safe.

Floods are cyclical in many parts of Asia, and recovery is a marathon, not a sprint. Global Humanitarian Support (GHS) remains committed to immediate life-saving action and to building sustained resilience, so families and communities are less vulnerable in future seasons. We combine practical relief, zero-interest financial support, and community partnership to ensure that help is effective, dignified, and lasting.

Pakistan: Monsoon Floods 2025

Relentless monsoon rains and glacial floods have devastated Pakistan, killing over 800 people, displacing tens of thousands, and destroying homes, roads, bridges, crops, and livestock. Communities face acute shortages of safe water, food, shelter, and healthcare, while rising disease outbreaks add to the crisis. The Pakistan Red Crescent Society, with IFRC support, is providing emergency relief and working to restore livelihoods and bolster the resilience of affected communities. But emergency responders urgently need more resources to reach the most vulnerable. Your donation can make a difference โ€“ donate now to help the Pakistan Red Crescent Society provide life-saving assistance.
